  • Columbus Cruise Center Terminal (CCCB)

    The cruise terminal at Bremerhaven, called Columbus Cruise Center, is a bus journey or taxi ride of about 5 minutes from the centre of the city, with a regular service being offered by the port authority. Most cruise companies arriving at Bremerhaven as a port of call, will also have organised complimentary shuttle buses between their terminal and the city. The approx. 1km long quay can handle up to four cruise liners simultaneously.

    The terminal itself is one of the most modern in Germany, if not the world and has souvenir shops, a coffee bar and an Internet cafe with good Wi-Fi deals. Although Bremerhaven is not on the cruise itinerary of every company, it is a popular destination in the Autumn with pre-Christmas shopping cruises visiting markets in Germany, where passengers hope to get good deals on Christmas decorations and gifts.

    Particularly attractive is the nearby harbour and old port area and the long promenade, or Weser Dyke, which provides strollers with good views across the River Weser.

  • Plenty of things to see and do

    Once passengers arrive in Bremerhaven they will find plenty to see and do, all within an easy walking distance.

    Near the Weser Dyke, there are some quaint shops with good deals on nautical memorabilia from Germany’s maritime past. A restaurant on an old sailing ship in the port here, is known for the excellence of its freshly caught fish and seafood.

    Bremerhaven has some interesting museums, such as the German Emigration Museum, which gives a fascinating insight into the travels and lives of people as they left Germany for new lives in the Americas.

    Here visitors can see reconstructions of steerage accommodation and the arrivals terminal at Ellis Island in New York.

    Younger visitors will enjoy a visit to Bremerhaven Zoo, near the harbour, where they can enjoy the collection of monkeys, descendants of monkeys brought back by Germany’s old seafarers.

    Only a short train ride away from Bremerhaven is the old Hanseatic League town of Bremen, with some excellent museums and a pretty mediaeval old quarter. Many cruise providers offer this as a tour, starting from the cruise port terminal.

    Also within an easy rail distance and great for a trip are the cities of Osnabruck and Hamburg (HafenCity). The cruise port of Kiel is 2 hours away. Another popular port of call in Germany is Warnemunde, the gateway to Berlin.

    Cruise passengers arriving by plane will mainly fly to Bremen Airport, the closest major international airport from the seaport. The airport is located approx. 70km from Bremerhaven.

    Other options is flying to/from Hamburg Finkenwerder or Hannover-Langenhagen Airport.
