Civitavecchia is a popular port city for cruises and ferries in and out of Roma with many eateries, small shops, train station and a beach.

Fiumicino Airport, which is also known as Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport is the main airport of Rome Italy, and the most important Italian airport. FCO airport is located about 65 km or 40 miles from the port of Civitavecchia, with a driving time of 50 minutes by taxi/shuttle.

Fiumicino airport (FCO) is the best choice when flying to Rome and to reach Civitavecchia cruise and ferry port. Ciampino airport, Rome’s second airport, is further away, about 85 km or 53 miles (1 hour and 20 minutes driving). Ciampino is mainly served by low cost airlines.

How to get to Civitavecchia cruise port from Rome?

Civitavecchia, which is also referred to as the “Port of Rome”, is a modern cruise and ferry port located about 70 km or 45 miles north-west of Rome in Italy.

There are also various options for getting from central Rome or airport hotel to the port;

  • Taxi is the most expensive option and is not recommended
  • You can arrange a private transfer (not shared). This is the fastest and most comfortable way. Cost of transfer for two will be around 120 to 160 euro
  • You can take a shared shuttle. Ranges from around 69 euro per person, or around €87.00* (Expedia)
  • You can always arrange a shared private transfer with others on your Cruisecritic roll call (rates are depending on number of travellers)
  • Take the train from Rome to Civitavecchia. This is the cheapest option but there are a number of challenges such as carrying your luggage down and up the stairs at the train station at Civitavecchia. The “Argo” buses leave from the area in front of the station, running every 20 minutes, getting you to the port in less than 10 minutes. The ticket costs €6 and can be bought on the bus.
