Tampa is a very popular place to head off for a cruise around the balmy waters of Florida and beyond.

When booking a cruise, it is advisable to stay within easy reach to the port (different areas) for at least one night prior to embarkation day.

This is so that you can be up bright and early at the terminal ready for departure, and also ensures that you do not miss your cruise due to a late flight, car trouble or missed train. You have several choices for hotels.

Where to Stay?

• Both Rocky Point and Westshore areas near TPA are popular with cruise passengers. Many hotels offer a free airport shuttle and a port transfer for a fee, or you could Uber to the cruise terminal for about $20. Staying near Tampa Airport is the cheaper option.
• Downtown Tampa is closest to the port. Several hotels offer a complimentary shuttle to the cruise port, even a few properties are within walking distance of the pier.
• Ideally when driving to the port are hotels offering free parking. These properties are mostly located outside the city center, such as near the airport or along Interstate 4 or 275.

Hampton Inn is one of the closest and best hotels near the port; it is within walking distance (about a 6-8 minute easy walk) from the cruise port terminal, and about 20 minutes from Tampa International Airport. The hotel has modern facilities to make you comfortable, and features a modern design with some customizable areas and popular digital tools.

Additionally, a free shuttle service to the port terminal is offered. You can explore downtown Tampa during your stay at the hotel to check out the convention center, Florida Aquarium, Amalie Arena, and more. 3. Home2 Suites By Hilton Tampa Downtown Channel District ★★★ (Walking Distance – Free Shuttle)

Located within walking distance of the Carnival, Royal Caribbean cruise terminals, the Home2 Suites Channel District is one of the closest hotels to the Port of Tampa. You can either walk to the pier or you can use the free shuttle.

Overnight parking costs $25. Unfortunately the airport is outside the two mile radius (TPA is approx. 8 miles away). The cheapest option to get to the hotel from the airport is by Uber or Lyft, price typically range between $12-$25 depending on demand. Taxis usually cost around $35. Cruise parking is available for a fee, ask for more details at the moment of check in.

After your free hot breakfast at this comfortable and modern downtown hotel, you can take the free shuttle service to any location in the city within a 3 mile radius of the hotel – including the port. This hotel is close to plenty of great Cuban restaurants and some fantastic shops so you can have a delicious meal and pick up a few last items that you will need for your holiday. This hotel is well located to explore the downtown area and only one mile from the Port of Tampa. It is therefore only a short cab or Uber/Lyft ride to your terminal. Overnight parking at the property is quite expensive (US$38 per day), so it does make it less convenient for travelers with a car.
