The bronze Gooseherd Fountain and the Marriage Carousel sculpture are iconic sights of Nuremberg. If you are a history lover then the town’s thirty museums will keep you busy exploring history and culture from Nuremberg and Germany.

If your interest is in Germany’s more recent history, then visit the thought provoking Documentation Centre at the Reich Party Rally Grounds and Courtroom 600, the site of the Nuremberg trials. On a lighter note, children will enjoy a visit to the Dolphinarium in the Tiergarten.

When you are ready for a breather from exploring Nuremberg’s history and attractions, sample some of Germany’s dark beers and spicy sausage in the city’s beer cellars. Children will enjoy the tasty Lebkuchen, or gingerbread biscuits. Try some on the spot or have them gift-wrapped as a present.

Another major departure port for river cruises in Germany is Passau, located on the Danube river.
